The East of England meets Greater London and the South East along its southern and western edge, and the East Midlands around Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire. A suitable tournament may therefore sit just outside the regional boundary.

South Essex, Kent and the Thames

South Essex sits close to Kent across the Thames, and this is the one place in the region where a distance can mislead you. A radius search measures a straight line, and a straight line crosses water. A ground in north Kent can look a few miles from Grays or Southend and still mean the Dartford Crossing, the tunnel queue or a long detour.

So if a result surprises you by how close it looks, check the actual route before you enter. The same caution applies in reverse to families in north Kent looking at Essex events.

Search by postcode when distance matters

A postcode search can be the quickest way to see what is genuinely reachable, because a radius crosses the regional boundary rather than stopping at it. That matters most in southern Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, close to Greater London, and around the Cambridgeshire boundary with the East Midlands.

Where does Essex appear?

The Essex area covers the county council area along with Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock, which are separate unitary authorities but part of the same place to anybody looking for a Sunday tournament.

Filter by age group, level and format

From the 2026/27 season, the maximum formats in England are 3v3 at U7, 5v5 at U8 and U9, 7v7 at U10 and U11, 9v9 at U12 and U13, and 11v11 from U14. Smaller formats may be used, so always check the individual tournament rules rather than assuming. When East of England tournaments happen

Many outdoor grassroots tournaments take place from late spring through the summer, with particularly strong availability between June and August. Timing varies by organiser and venue, and some tournaments using indoor or artificial pitches may run at other times of year.

Popular summer tournaments often take entries months in advance, so it is worth looking early or setting an alert for your age group.

Before you commit, check the organiser-declared level against your squad, the playing format and squad size, the number of guaranteed games, the date and kick-off time, and the wet-weather and refund policy.
