Which County FA covers the club?

The FA's current rules on overlapping areas (opens in a new tab) provide that a club's playing ground constitutes its headquarters, with limited exceptions, and that a club can hold membership with more than one association. If you are unsure which County FA a club belongs to, ask the club rather than assuming from its postcode.

It is worth knowing because the County FA handles your club's affiliation and county competitions, and it is also part of the safeguarding escalation route in England.

How youth football is organised in Wiltshire

Wiltshire FA's current list of youth leagues (opens in a new tab) includes the Mid Wilts Youth League, the North Wilts Youth Football League (opens in a new tab) and the South Wiltshire Mini Soccer League.

If your club's league is not on Wiltshire FA's list, ask the club which league it enters and which County FA it is affiliated to.

Age groups, formats and rules

Wiltshire clubs play under England Football rules, so the formats, ball sizes and heading rules are the England ones rather than anything county-specific.

Girls' football in Wiltshire

Wiltshire FA's girls' football page (opens in a new tab) names the North Wilts Youth Football League among the leagues where girls can play competitive football, and Wildcats, Just Play and Squad Girls as recreational programmes. It describes Squad Girls as being for girls aged 12 to 14.

Mixed football is permitted in England from Under 7 to Under 18, so a girl who wants to keep playing in a mixed team can. If you want a girls-only environment, ask how many girls' age groups a club runs rather than only whether it has a team at your daughter's age.
